DVAR TORAH FOR PARSHAS While the מרגליים were speaking bad about ארץ ישראל, we see that כלב got everyone quiet and started saying all the good about משה רבינו and 'ה, & we see later on that he was rewarded very greatly for this. The question is what was the big deal, if he wasn't successful in what he tried doing? R' Moshe answers from here we see a big יסוד that "מיר דארף טען, נישט אויפטען". Even though he didn't succeed, since he did whatever he was able to, he got שכר for the מעשה he did. Another answer he gives is that he actually did succeed and they got convinced, and got the אמונה that 'ה will help them, and even though right away the מרגלים convinced them out of it, since for that short time they were convinced, that was a big success and is very חשוב by הקב"ה, and that's why he was rewarded so greatly. We have a 'ראי to this יסוד, because the אבן עזר says by מצרים the whole קרית ים סוף was in order for the mitzriyim to see that 'ה rules the whole world (וידעו מצריים כי אני ה') so the seemingly obvious question is that they all drowned right away so what was the point? So from here also we see that even though it was for a really short time because they died right away, it was still worth it to put this אמונה in the מצריים. We can take out from here that any time a person does something for 'ה even if it's for a really short time that itself is a really great thing. גוט שבת
